From Revival to Growth Engine
Sakti Thermal Plant is a 1,200 MW coal-based thermal power facility located at Sakti district, Chhattisgarh. The plant comprises two units of 600 MW each and forms a key part of Vedanta Power’s expanding thermal generation portfolio.
Positioned in one of India’s major coal-bearing regions, Sakti Thermal Plant, Chhattisgarh benefits from strong domestic coal linkages and proximity to fuel sources, ensuring reliable raw material sourcing and long-term fuel security. The plant contributes to strengthening regional grid stability while supporting growing electricity demand.Â
Reviving Strategic Generation Capacity
Sakti Thermal Plant, Chhattisgarh was originally developed as a 1,200 MW half-built thermal power plant under Athena Chhattisgarh Power Limited before being acquired by Vedanta Limited in 2022 through insolvency proceedings.
The project was integrated into Vedanta’s power portfolio and subsequently amalgamated with Vedanta Limited in 2023. The revival of this asset marked an important step in restoring stalled generation capacity and expanding Vedanta Power’s operational footprint.
Designed for Dependable Generation
Sakti Thermal Plant, Chhattisgarh comprises two high-capacity thermal generation units of 600 MW each, designed to deliver dependable baseload power at scale.
The plant integrates modern generation infrastructure and operational monitoring systems that support stable performance, efficient fuel utilisation and reliable electricity production.
Built for Performance and Value
Since its acquisition, Sakti Thermal Plant, Chhattisgarh has progressed through phased operationalisation, successfully achieving commercial operation of its first 600 MW unit in 2025, while advancing the scale-up of second unit. The plant is supported by a medium-term power off take arrangement with Tamil Nadu Power Development Corporation Limited (TNPDCL),to deliver 200 MW of electricity from 2026, positioning it to deliver reliable baseload power supply.Â
With a strong focus on disciplined execution, operational readiness, and performance stabilisation, Sakti Thermal Plant, Chhattisgarh is steadily emerging as a modern thermal generation asset, contributing to Vedanta Power’s growing installed capacity and strengthening dependable power supply.
