Transforming Challenges to Strength

Vedanta Power’s Meenakshi Energy Limited is a 1,000 MW coal-based thermal power plant located at Thamminapatnam in Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh. Strategically positioned near Krishnapatnam Port, the plant supports dependable baseload electricity supply to utilities and industrial consumers across southern India. Supported by secured domestic coal linkages and proximity to port-based logistics, Meenakshi Energy Ltd., Andhra Pradesh operates with strong raw material sourcing flexibility and fuel security, enabling stable and reliable generation.

As part of Vedanta Power’s generation portfolio, this asset strengthens the company’s presence in southern markets through disciplined operations, improved asset performance, and robust infrastructure.

From Resilience to Transformation

Originally incorporated in 1996, Meenakshi Energy Ltd., Andhra Pradesh has undergone several transfers of ownership before being acquired by Vedanta Limited in 2023. Vedanta implemented a structured revival plan to stabilise operations and restore the plant’s full 1,000 MW operational capacity, strengthening our expanding thermal power generation portfolio.

Engineered for Efficient Generation

Meenakshi Energy Ltd., Andhra Pradesh comprises two 150 MW units and two 350 MW units equipped with advanced boiler and turbine systems, designed for efficient subcritical thermal power generation. The two 150 MW units feature a CFBC boiler with a BMCR of 495 TPH, making them a distinctive and strategically significant asset within the Vedanta Group’s power portfolio.

Modern control systems and monitoring infrastructure support stable operations, efficient fuel utilisation and dependable electricity production.

Built for Operational Reliability

Meenakshi Energy Ltd., Andhra Pradesh has been stabilised into a fully operational 1,000 MW asset through a structured revival programme, with all four units commissioned within two years of acquisition. Backed by a five-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Tamil Nadu Power Development Corporation Limited (TNPDCL), to deliver 300 MW power supply from 2026, the plant is positioned to deliver reliable baseload power to utilities and industrial consumers.

Its proximity to Krishnapatnam Port strengthens fuel logistics and sourcing flexibility, while secured domestic coal linkages reduce import dependence ensuring consistent plant performance and generation reliability.
