Powering Punjab’s Energy Needs
Vedanta Power’s Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant is a 1,980 MW super-critical coal-based thermal power plant located at Banawala in Mansa district, Punjab. The asset supplies 100% of its generated power to Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), playing a critical role in supporting 35% of Punjab’s energy requirements through dependable, large-scale electricity generation.
Strengthening Power Infrastructure
Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant was established by the Punjab State Electricity Board as a special purpose vehicle to develop a large-scale thermal power project in the state. The project was awarded to Vedanta Limited (earstwhile Sterlite Energy Limited) under a Build–Own–Operate model.
Today, Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant stands as a significant greenfield power project, contributing to Punjab’s growing electricity demand and strengthening the state’s power infrastructure.
Advanced Generation Systems for Efficiency
Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant, Punjab operates with super-critical thermal technology, an advanced generation system designed for higher efficiency than conventional thermal plants.
By operating at higher steam temperatures and pressures, the plant generates more electricity with lower coal consumption, improving fuel utilisation while supporting enhanced environmental performance.
Designed for Reliable Operations
Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant, Punjab operates three 660 MW generating units, forming one of the largest private thermal power assets in northern India. Integrated with regional transmission networks, the plant is designed to deliver reliable baseload power to the state grid.
Disciplined operations and structured maintenance practices support consistent generation and efficient plant performance.
